The story takes place in the Taisho era, when two men lived through the turbulent early 20th century: novelist Matsunaga Syunkô and painter Ichiyanagi Suichô. The atmosphere of this turbulent time relentlessly assaults both of their lives. The story begins in 1921, after the pandemic had finally subsided following World War I.
